The Congress of Vienna

About the Committee:

The autumn of 1814 has arrived and a tentative peace has settled in Europe following the victory of the sixth coalition. Now, the powers of Europe grapple with maintaining this uneasy peace as unrest and revolutionary fervor still runs rampant across the devastated continent. A congress of nations is to be held in Vienna, where each power seeks to protect their interests in a postwar settlement. Conflict already appears to be brewing as some attempt to desperately restore the status quo while others seek to carve out territory to strengthen themselves. It remains to be seen whether the nations of Europe will be able to secure a satisfying and lasting peace or if they will once again plunge into tumultuous warfare. They must be cautious, though, as not too far away, on a small island off the coast of Italy, an ambitious and cunning man watches the bickering of the congress and plots his own vision for “peace” in Europe.

A LETTER FROM THE DaiS:

Hi Delegates,

My name is Lauren Sprow, and I am so excited to be one of your co-directors for Everyone Wants a Peace of the Pie: The Congress of Vienna, 1814 this year! I am a sophomore in the college of Literature, Science, and Arts here at the University of Michigan studying Chemistry and English. Outside of MUNUM, I am a member of the University's competitive Model UN team, the American Chemical Society, the Undergraduate English Association, and work in a research lab studying inorganic and organometallic chemistry. Outside of school, I like baking, reading, knitting, playing D&D, and have a mild obsession with Animal Crossing and The Legend of Zelda. I hope that all of you are as excited for MUNUM XXXVII as I am, and feel free to email me with any questions that you may have, conference related or not!

Hello Delegates,

My name is William Aye, and I am absolutely thrilled to be your co-director for Everyone Wants a Peace of the Pie: Congress of Vienna, 1814. I am currently a sophomore studying Biochemistry and History here at the University of Michigan’s College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. Outside the joy that is MUNUM, I am also active in blueMUN, the University of Michigan History Club, the American Chemical Society, the Board Games and Cards Club, and undergraduate research in a chemical biology lab. In my downtime, I quite enjoy indie and RPG games, baking delicious shortbread, playing DND, and delving into a good book. I am immensely looking forward to Hades 2 as I played far too much of the first game. Please don’t hesitate to contact me with any questions or concerns, and I truly hope that you are all ready for an exhilarating committee this year!

If you have questions about the committee or otherwise, we are available at sprowla@umich.edu and ayewill@umich.edu

Lauren and Will, Co-Directors of the Congress of Vienna
