Goryeo Dynasty declares war, receives surprise visits

By: Quinn Riordan

The Goryeo Dynasty received a surprise visit from the Jurchens, as they began their discussions on Jan. 17, instantly forming a divide within the court. The Jurchens declared themselves the “Jin Dynasty,” while taking part of the Goryeo Dynasty’s land and enacting necessary demands, Princess Yeondeok said. Moreover, the Jurchens called the court and nation, “little brother”, which lead to an uproar within the court over the course of action and severity.

“The court issued declarations of war and false alliances, passing a ploy integration within the Jurchen military to issue a surprise military attack on their leaders, increase trade, and send bad fruit to weaken their people, all to increase the likelihood of the Goryeo’s success in battle. The Goryeo will prosper, gain back our lands, ensuring security and stability for our dynasty,” Queen Seonpyeong said.

These announcements were heavily debated, tensions were rising throughout the court, as they factioned off into two separate groups - one mostly Confusious and the other Buddhist. The Jurchen people have been flippant throughout the history of the dynasty, manipulating the Goryeo and Liao Dynasty with their knowledge of the tensions between the two. These fears surrounding the new Jin Dynasty, have been fueled by years of mistrust to justify the calls for war.

“The discussion has been centered around proposing an alliance with the Jin dynasty, to ensure security, stability, and prosperity for the grand Goryeo Dynasty and its people,” Kim Busik said.

As the court debated war or an alliance, the Song Dynasty arrived bringing them gifts of music and asking for an alliance to “eradicate” the Jurchen people, the representative from the Song Dynasty said. However, their proposal for an alliance was viewed as questionable by many royals in the court, doubting the motives and stipulations that would be required.

“The Song Dynasty were previously aligned with the Jurchen people and certain members of the court have expressed fears over the incentives of the Song and whether they will remain loyal within and alliance,” Princess Yeondeok said.

As conflict ensues and with the new declarations of war against the Jurchens, without agreement to the Song’s proposal it is unclear the outcome for the Goryeo Dynasty. The goal of the Goryeo court is to weaken the Jurchen and stalling, while consequently building and strengthening their military. Similarly, staging a false alliance with the Jin Dynasty to gain trust and then attack without the threat of premeditated retaliation.

“The court feels strongly that these proposals will ensure the security and peace for the Goryeo people and the dynasty as a whole,” Princess Yeondeok said.

Weimar Republic Moving Forward

By: Allison Gerth

During the very first committee in which political figure heads and government officials of the Weimar Republic convened, there were multiple assassination attempts, heated debates, and more. After over an hour of standstill in the committee between different political groups engaging in conflict, a directive that was finally proposed by President Fredrich Erbert was passed. The directive was “democratically elected through universal suffrage,” in the words of the President, Fredrich Erbert, and it included a list of twelve voters who would vote on all matters to pass resolutions and directives. These voters included six people of the Social Democratic Party of Germany, while the other six people were made up of different smaller parties like the Industrialists and the Centre. However, before this directive passed, other people in this crisis room were plotting against Rosa Luxemburg. Both hit men hired failed to kill Rosa Luxemburg. While one got away, the other was killed before he could disclose who `killed him”. One hitman shot a 1.2 millimeter toxin from an umbrella attempting to poison her, but failed. During this commotion with Luxembourg one of her hired bodyguards was tragically shot and killed. After the attempted assassination took place, Ms. Luxemburg stated, “I am very happy to still be alive today, and I hope to keep fighting for change.” One thing that Luxemburg does not know is that there are people working against her. Karl Helfferich and Joseph Wirth were working together in the means of assassinating Luxemburg. Helfferich and Wirth worked together in order to come up with the idea to shoot the toxin out of the umbrella. Even though this attempt failed, people are in the process of still trying to assassinate Luxemburg. She needs to hire new body guards before it’s too late.

A Tale of Two Ukraines

By: Brady Noble

The Ukraine is in turmoil at the moment. Protests have erupted regarding the president, Viktor Yanukovych. Due to his plan to make the Ukraine closer to western influences. However, under his administration, his plans fell apart. Corruption became common in the Ukraine, and his policies tended to shift pro-Russian instead of pro-western democracy. As a result of these policy shifts, Ukranian people began to protest during the later months of 2013. The protesters demanded that Yanukovych revert back to his policies and that he resign. In late 2013, Yanukovych eventually fled the Ukraine. Soon after, Crimea voted to succeed to Russia. When the Ukraine deemed the vote invalid, Russia struck back by sending forces to the Ukranian border.

Within the crisis, there are two main factions: the Kiev Government and the Separatists. The Kiev Government is looking to handle the conflicts on the border, try and heal the division, and as well as attempting to solve internal problems such as the national debt. The Separatists are also attempting to create a new government. Their highest priority is to gain support, unity, and recognition around the nation. In the Government committee, several directives have been proposed, including the “Law Enforcement” directive, by Stepan Kubiv and Viktor Kryvenko. This directive looked at the possibility of supporting border protection across the Ukraine/Russia border as well as securing funds for a stronger police force. The funds for the police would be achieved by levying a 2.5% tax on all businesses in Kiev. In addition, the Kiev Government was interested in pursuing a two-week ceasefire.

On the Separatist side, there was a mutual agreement to a two-week ceasefire. There appeared to be both unity and division within that room. There was a consensus that it was important to figure out how much aid the Kiev Government was receiving from western democracies. In order to do this, the majority opinion was to send spies into the Kiev Government to understand how much aid was received. However, there seemed to be some division among how this was to be executed.
