CREEP-ing to Victory: Nixon’s Inner Circle 1971-1974
About the Committee:
The silent majority finally has its voice - Richard Nixon, a troubled and deeply ambitious man, has at last succeeded in his quest for the U.S presidency. However, he is not satisfied. His victory in 1968 was only grasped by a narrow margin, and his thirst for power is as strong as ever. The economy is crumbling, Vietnam is falling, and the streets writhe with unrest. America stands at a precipice, one Nixon believes that only he can pull it back from. To do this, Nixon has pulled out all the stops, meaning that no dirty trick scandal, or overreach of power is too much. A group of men from all walks of life has been assembled with one goal: to secure Nixon’s power and cement his legacy as one of America’s greatest presidents. Will they succeed, forever transforming the United States in Richard Nixon’s image? Or will Nixon be disgraced, defeated, and sent crawling back to Yorba Linda?
A LETTER FROM THE DaiS:
Welcome, Delegates!
My name is Annie Kleber, and I couldn’t be more excited to serve as one of your co-directors for CREEP-ing to Victory: Nixon’s Inner Circle. I’m a sophomore studying Classics and History in the Honors program in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. Outside of MUNUM, I enjoy participating in a variety of Classics organizations (including Eta Sigma Phi and the Society for Classical Studies), UM’s History Club, and Instagram giveaways for stuffed animals. Though I competed in Model UN for all four years of high school, I’ve always preferred being behind the dais, and MUNUM XXXVIII will be the sixth conference I’ve had the honor to chair. Ian and I had an incredible amount of fun creating this committee, and we’re going to continue to put our energy into giving everyone the best MUNUM experience possible. If you have any questions - MUNUM or otherwise - feel free to contact me! I look forward to meeting you all.
Hi everyone! My name is Ian Smith, and I am beyond thrilled to be your co-director for this committee! I’m currently a sophomore and plan to major in public policy or political science. Some other organizations I’ve been a part of at Michigan include BlueMUN, History Club, and board games club. Beyond school and extracurriculars, I have a deep interest in 20th century American politics (hence the committee topic) and I’m working on visiting all of the official presidential libraries and museums. I also run very casually and get very into reading from time to time. Designing this committee with Annie has been an amazing experience so far, and I can’t wait to see all of you (hopefully) have a great time at MUNUM with it. Feel free to reach out if you have any questions about this committee, MUNUM, or anything else - I’ll see you in January!
We can’t wait to see everyone in committee, unless either of us get convicted of treason beforehand. Until then, we can be reached at annekl@umich.edu and iansmi@umich.edu.
Best,
Annie and Ian, your Nixon’s Inner Circle Co-Directors
