My name is Melissa, and I’m the director of UNICEF. I am delighted to welcome you MUNUM 31!
This is my final year here at UofM in the College of Literature, Science, and the Arts. My major is International Studies, and I’m also pursuing a minor in Law, Justice, and Social Change. I was born and raised in the tiny town of Onsted, Michigan. Unfortunately, Model UN wasn’t offered in my high school, so my first year in Model UN was actually during my sophomore year of college as a rapporteur of SOCHUM. I co-directed UNICEF during my junior year and am so excited to direct this council again.
UNICEF, the United Nations Children’s Fund, is a UN programme that provides humanitarian assistance and promotes the wellbeing of the world’s most disadvantaged children. Committed to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), UNICEF strives to ensure peace, prosperity, and equity. Everything UNICEF does is with the goal of protecting the most vulnerable members of society from violence, discrimination, poverty, and hunger. Millions of children have been and continue to be saved by UNICEF.
If you are passionate about human rights and interested in topics such as eradiating inequality or protecting those ravaged by war, you are more than welcome in UNICEF. It doesn’t matter if this is your first or twelfth conference. The staff and I hope to make MUNUM 31 a fun and rewarding experience for everyone.
If you have any questions about UNICEF, don’t hesitate to email me.
Welcome to MUNUM XXXI,
Director of UNICEF
